ABOUT DELF COTTAGE
Delf Cottage is a delightful three-bedroom home nestled in the countryside, offering stunning views and a peaceful retreat. The spacious open-plan living area and fully equipped kitchen provide a welcoming atmosphere, while oil central heating and a wood-burning stove ensure year-round comfort. Additionally, the property features a heated pool in the summer, enhancing the overall experience for guests.
HISTORY OF DELF COTTAGE
Delf Cottage was constructed in 1933 for farm workers, showcasing a modernist design influenced by Swiss-American architect William Lescaze, who was also involved in similar projects at Dartington Hall in Devon. His assistant, Robert Hening MBE, designed the three cottages specifically to provide comfortable housing for agricultural workers. At the time, the inclusion of running water and indoor bathing facilities was quite revolutionary, as most workers typically relied on more basic arrangements. The other two cottages have since been transformed into a single residence, where we have enjoyed living for the past 30 years.
LOCATION
Delf Cottage is in a superb position facing south-west across Worsbrough Dale with rolling farmland and woods and to the Pennines and the Peak District beyond. Despite this, it is only two miles from the centre of Barnsley and is easily accessible by Motorway, 5 minutes from M1 junctions 36 and 37.
